Ten things you didn't know about Wyke Marine

Wyke Marine (then called Morissey Offshore} was originally established in 1983 in offices located at The Land of Green Ginger in Hull's Old Town.

The client of a surveyor is called a principal. We are therefore committed to our principals – our logo is not a spelling mistake!

Wyke is the original 12th Century name for the present location of Hull. The first settlement was established for marine trading purposes, the export of wool from the nearby abbey of Meaux to Holland.

The derivation of Wyke is the old Scandinavian word "vik" meaning an inlet or creek.

Wyke Marine moved to their present purpose built offices, Wyke House in 1988.

Wyke Marine is totally independent and is owned by the husband and wife team, Tim & Betty Stafford.

Wyke Marine's first client was the Scottish shipbuilder, Scott Lithgow of Greenock. Since then Wyke Marine has served clients including Shipowners, P&I Clubs, Insurance Companies, Solicitors and Local Government.

Wyke Marine was short listed by the Ministry of Defence for the management of the Air Sea Rescue Service.

Over the years Wyke Marine's jobs have ranged from the total care and responsibility of a multi million pound semi-submersible oil rig for several months to a thirty minute survey of clothes pegs.

Wyke Marine's Design Department opened in 1993 and since then it has designed Logos, Christmas cards, created artistic impressions, produced this web site and several paintings of ships and dock operations.
